Happy Turkey Day

We had a nice long weekend! Stephen and Caitlin were both home from college so it was like old times. We bought a new refrigerator WOOWEE!! My good friend Ray came over and we installed the bugger. I joined Twitter because of an article i read in the NYTimes. I really have no idea how these things work but i do apparently like to join them. November was a busy month for us. Glenora and I went to Pittsburgh for a memorial service for Nana Flo. It was nice to see our relatives and bury her ashes at the same cemetary where her mother, father, and other relatives are buried. We only stayed for a long weekend so we didnt get to do much in the Burgh. Stephen was notified that he had been accepted for Navy flight school when he graduates from UT in May. Very exciting for him. Congratulations to him!!

Notes on Ikealypse

Image
Photos from the park in our neighborhood: 9/16/2008 4:48 PM: No power still. 9/14/2008 10:28 AM: The storm came onshore at 2AM Friday 9/12/08. The weather started getting bad Friday afternoon and got steadily worse. It is scary sitting through a Cat 2 hurricane!! We spent part of the evening in our powder room which is the only interior room without windows. Our house did ok, no real damage just a lot of downed branches, busted fence, and loss of power at 11PM on Friday. Reflections on the aftermath: Low tech wins- battery operated stuff you need: TV Radio Anything else you can find- a fan would be nice Lots of batteries- AA and D in our case. In our case the gas has stayed on so an old time brew coffee pot has kept us in coffee. If you partake in demon rum then stock up on your favorite. Food- non perishable stuff is essential. Once the power goes out the food in refrigerator will go fast. Generator- yes or no? Most don’t have one but those who do have smaller ones that don’t power a...

Ike is coming

Hurricane Ike is on the way. Galveston and areas along the coast are looking very bad. More to follow as long as the lights stay on.

Sad news from Ft Myers

On Friday 8/8/08 Nana Flo passed away at Hope Hospice. We were on our way over but didn't make it in time. We (Myself, Glenora, Stephen, Caitlin, Sarah, John) spent the weekend with Vince (her husband), his 3 children and many of their friends in the community. There was a beautiful memorial service for mom on Sunday. It was nice of Ray Chalmers and Mike and Karen Sughrue to attend. My mother was a Daughter of the American Revolution. She was the only child of Stephen and Sarah Stroup and married John Harrington in 1950. John rejoined the Air Force and eventually retired. Flo spent most of her years moving from one air force base to another and raising 3 children. I don't think her upbringing prepared her for the trials and tribulations of being a miltary spouse, but her strength of character helped her to do the best she could for her children.

Caitlin's High School Graduation

Congrats to Caitlin on her graduation from Langham Creek HS, Houston, TX. We had a great time with everyone. Too bad Nana Flo or Brother Stephen couldn't be here for the festivities. Pictures to follow. As promised pictures!! http://picasaweb.google.com/dharrington1190/GraduationAndParty

Stephen is going to Japan for his 1st class cruise

He will be stationed with HSL 51- the Warlords for a month. Hope he gets some flight time. His email address is stephenharr@gmail.com. He will return to Austin for his senior year next year and be commissioned in the Navy.

Nana Flo has been pretty sick

My brother, sister, and I spent last week in Ft Myers , Fl helping our mother who was admitted to the ICU in Respiratory Failure. The ICU staff did a good job and saved her. She was discharged today and is at home resting comfortably I hope. She should have gone to a rehab facility and then had home health but didn't. Hope she does ok.
